About our Athletic Department (member of Parochial Athletic League - P.A.L.)

Philosophy:
To develop and foster Christian spirit through exercise, example and athletic competition. Holy Rosary School will provide teams in those sports offered for all students (grades 5-8) who have a desire and a commitment to participate.

Objectives:

  • To develop good sportsmanship by instructing and modeling proper attitudes towards winning, losing, and competing with dignity.
  • To teach the positive values of athletic participation.
  • To instruct and train students about athletic rules and develop students' physical abilities and coordination.
  • To create an environment that challenges students to strive for excellence.
  • To foster a commitment to the development of a team mentality where team goals are placed ahead of individual goals.
  • To develop school and team spirit with positive self esteem.
  • To promote responsibility, acceptance, and appreciation of others.
  • To emphasize the necessity of practice, hard work and management of time.
  • To instill leadership and encourage cooperation among students, parents and coaches in support of each other.
  • To create a fun environment and lifelong love of sports.

Eligibility Guidelines for Student Athletes & Parent Participation

Athlete Eligibility (abbreviated - please see athletic handbook (below) for complete policy)
Principal approval is necessary for participation in the HRS Athletic Program. Each student must have a continuous GPA of 2.0 or higher per grading quarter and not receive an "F" in any subject in order to participate. Each student must have continuous written approval from teachers on academic and classroom conduct.

All in class assignments must be current and approved by the homeroom teacher. If a student athlete fails to turn in assignments, this action will result in restriction from the team. It is the responsibility of the student athlete to inform his/her parent if he/she is placed on probation. If on probation, a clearance form must be signed by the homeroom teacher, athletic director and parent before a student athlete is able to participate in practice or team games.

For a student athlete to be eligible to participate in that day's athletic contest they must have attended class for the majority of the day. On a minimum day, the student can attend scheduled contests, games, tournaments and meets.

Parent Participation:
Dependable parent participation is essential, in order for the HRS Athletic Program to successfully achieve its stated philosophy and objectives and provide our children with a positive experience. Please see the Athletic Handbook for parent responsibilities.
